A new report shows that over the next year a majority of solar energy companies plan to add employees. According to the National Solar Jobs Consensus 2011 issued by The Solar Foundation, a nonprofit focused on education, research, and market transformation of the solar industry, the solar job market grew 6.8% from August 2010 to August 2011 totaling more than 6,000 new solar jobs created and growing nearly ten times faster than the overall economy. Solar industry employers expect to increase their workforce by 24% in the next year, creating 24,000 new jobs.

As of August 2011, the U.S. solar industry employed an estimated 100,237 solar workers. Georgia currently ranks 17th in the top states for solar jobs. Of the 24,000 new jobs that are estimated to be created in the next year, the majority will be created in the installation subsector (13,068 jobs) and the sales and distribution subsector (6,188 jobs).
