Vermont College To Install Solar Panels

Vermont’s Middlebury College recently announced it will be installing solar panels to offset its high electricity costs. This will be the third solar panel installation for Middlebury following systems that were installed in 2003 and in 2008.

The school, located in Middlebury, Vermont, will install photovoltaic (PV) solar panels on solar trackers that rotate with the sun on about an acre and a half of the college’s land. The solar energy installation is expected to produce 200,000 kWh (kilowatt hours) worth of solar power each year.

Vermont officials say the solar installation will use 34 solar energy trackers and will produce enough energy to offset the needs of one of its residence halls. The solar array is expected to save the Vermont school between $5,000 and $10,000 dollars each year.
