logo-ikea-atlantaThe folks at IKEA are going solar in Georgia (again). On Tuesday IKEA flipped the switch on a 6,076 panel 1.45MW photovoltaic (PV) rooftop solar array – their second in the state of Georgia. The 182,300 square foot PV array atop the IKEA distribution center near Savannah, Georgia  is now the largest solar roof in Georgia.

This PV array will produce about 1,973,562 kWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing 1,361 tons of carbon dioxide, eliminating the emissions of 267 cars or powering 170 homes yearly, IKEA said.

This rooftop solar energy system is the second Georgia solar panel installation for IKEA – In July the Swedish retailer turned on a 129,400-square-foot solar energy system at its Atlanta store at Atlantic Station (which also has a nearby solar powered EV charging station).
